Baker’s cyst in children: conservative management versus surgical excision according to clinical and imaging criteria

Abstract Background Pediatric patients rarely exhibit Baker’s cysts. This study was conducted on 15 cases (9 males, 6 females) presented with Baker (popliteal) cyst in the last 2 years (from September 2017 to 2019). The mean age 8.5 years. aim of this present our experience management these based clinical and imaging criteria. Plain x-ray knee ultrasonography were routinely done for all cases. If size less than or equal 3 cm by ultrasonography, no minimal pain, managed conservatively scheduled followed up visits after months, 12 months assessment symptoms sonographic cyst. Surgical excision considered if more persistent pain. Results Seven had cysts conservatively. In five out seven cases, disappeared recurrence within first year follow-up. two increased increase These subjected surgical 1 remaining eight excision. Out ten which excision, occurred post-operative (after 4 7 8 months) consecutively.
